Solar Power Energy
Alchemy World was successful in applying to Sollatek to receive two of their charity 'glowstar lamps' for the people in rural Ethiopia. Charged by a solar panel, the lamps are used to provide lighting and charge mobile phones and batteries - particularly useful in poor rural areas that have no access to this type of sustainable energy source.
These two Sollatek glowstar lamps have been delivered to two rural villages: Abiko and Mekabe Addarke
Abiko lies at the foot of Ras Dashen, the highest peak in Ethiopia. It is located in the North Gondar Province at an altitude of 4620 metres. The village has 500 inhabitants of which 300 are children. They nearest small town of Debark takes 5 days to reach. The villagers suffer from extreme poverty and malnutrition, they have no access to shops or telephone lines.
The solar lamp was placed at the Holy Saviour Village Church for community usage.
Mekabe Addarke lies in the lowland territories, 3 days hard trek from nearest small town of Debark. About 1000 villagers live here of which 850 are children. The people suffer from extreme poverty, they have no access to shops or telephone lines but have a school. Until 3 years ago, the school consisted of learning under a tree for 20 lucky children. Recently, donations from overseas aid enabled the construction of four, then 12 classrooms. With the investment in infratsructure children from the surrounding areas started frequenting the school driving the attendance to 850 children.
The solar lamp was placed in the school for school and community usage.

A letter from Shif...
Dear brothers, (Nesibu & Daniel)
I came back from the mountains yesterday. I had a great trip and delivered one of the solar panels to the church of Abiko. This is a big change for the villagers. To see light on the foot of the highest peak in Ethiopia! They started to pray for all of us.
Thank you brothers,
Shif
