The children of the Weyto community near Bahir Dar suffer from malnutrition brought on by extreme poverty. In order to reverse the effects of this treatable disease, Alchemy World has identified an appropriate food nutritional support called
Plumpy'nut. It is a ready-to-eat, vitamin-enriched and peanut based high-protein and high-energy paste that can be distributed to children at home rather than in specialist feeding stations and can be eaten without any preparation. It tastes a bit sweeter than peanut butter and children love it. The WHO has categorized Plumpy'nut as a Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).
Plumpy'nut was started in Ethiopia in 2007 with the support of UNICEF, and the factrory that produces it is headquartered just outside Addis Ababa.
As a food supplement it now is proven to replenish young children who take it daily.
Sponsor the purchase of Plumpy'nut for a malnourished child on our donations page.
